Judicial Bypass Resources

My heart went out to the person who found my site searching for "Where to get Judicial Bypass".

First, if you're a minor, you are legally entitled to make a decision about abortion on your own.  If you're mature.  Many states have laws requiring minors to get the permission of one or both parents before they have an abortion (parental consent laws) or notify their parents (parental notification laws).  A judicial bypass is a Constitutionally mandated alternative, where you go in front of a judge, and tell him/her why you want an abortion, and s/he will determine if you're mature enough to make that decision.  This is basically how it works.  I don't understand how you could be too immature to make a decision about abortion but mature enough to have a child, but that's my personal confusion.

Here's what I got so far.  First, I think you can always call NAF or your local abortion clinic or the 800 number for Planned Parenthood (PP).  Those seem like really solid places to start.  I've posted what I can find, but please feel free to add, or share your experiences, or correct anything.

AL: Call the clinic
AZ: Call the clinic, then go down to the courthouse, fill out a form, have hearing (see PP)
CO: forms online, call PP
DE: only applies to under 16, call NAF
FL: PATH has some resources; you can call them at (877) FLA-PATH.  You have the right to a free attorney if you need one, says PRCH (pdf)
GA: Can't find much, call the counseling line at 1-800-264-7154
IN: Call the Indiana ACLU at 317-635-4059 ext. 224; the University has a lot of good information, and I bet they have access to more resources
IA: Call NAF
KS: Can't find anything, but you need one
KY: Try the Kentucky ACLU (502-581-1181)
LA: Try the local PP's.  Baton Rouge at (225) 387-1167, New Orleans at (504) 897-9200
ME: Can't find anything.  Try PP, your clinic, or NAF
MA: PRCH (pdf) says to call 1-800-682-9218
MI: PP has some instructions.  First step, call the circuit court in your county & tell them you want information on judicial bypass
MN: This has the names and numbers of people to contact (bottom right)
MS: "If a minor cannot tell her parents, she can go to Chancery Judge in home county or Hinds County to get judicial bypass. Minor will have to convince the judge that she is mature enough and well informed enough to have the abortion without parents' knowledge." (a clinic)
MO: No clue, call NAF
NE: Forms are supposed to be available in any courthouse, but I can't find out where those courthouses are.
NC: The ACLU says you start by filing a petition with the District Court.  Contact the ACLU, NAF, or PP.
ND: Can't find much, call the local PP, national PP, NAF, or your clinic
OH: Call your clinic.  You need to go to the clerk of courts for the juvenile court in your county.
PA: call here
RI: Call PPRI at (401) 421-9620 9health center)
SC: Call PP; the local PP might be able to get you a free attorney.  Or call your clinic.  Here is one of the forms (.doc)
SD: Same PP info as for ND and MN; call NAF, local clinic, or PP.
TN: Try your court's clerk, but also try PP, NAF, or your clinic b/c the clerks a) might not know or b) might not be super supportive
TX: 1-866-www-jane or 1-866-999-5263
UT: Can't find anything.  Call NAF or PP or your clinic.
VA: Call PP at 1-800-230-PLAN or call your clinic.  You could probably call the juvenile court in your county too.
WV: Get a letter from a doc who is not at your clinic or get judicial bypass.  Call the clinic for details.
WI: An adult family member over 25 (.pdf) can give consent (sister, aunt, grandparent, etc.); the blank order form itself is here (.doc), so it seems you have to go to the Circuit Court in your county.  The petition is here (.pdf), by the way.
WY: Can't find much, try PP online or at (303) 321-7526

World estimations of the number of terminations carried out each year is somewhere between 20 and 88 million.

3,500 per day / 1.3 million per year in America alone.

50% of that 1.3 million claimed failed birth control was to blame.

A further 48% had failed to use any birth control at all.

And 2% had medical reasons.

That means a stagering 98% may have been avoided had an effective birth control been used.

Over 3,500 terminations per day, 1.3 MILLION per year in the United States alone.
50 or 60 MILLION per year World Wide.

I am a pro-lifer who has no religious convictions at all . I didn't need the fear of god or anything else to come to my decision, just a good sense of what is right and wrong.
You see we were all once a fetus. Is it beyond the realm of possibilities that when your mother first learned she was carrying you, she may have considered her options? What if she had decided to terminate? Would that have been OK?
You would not exist, if you have children they would not exist, and your (husband or wife) would be married to someone else. You would have been deprived of all your experiences and memories. In this day and age with terminations being so readily available and so many being carried out, if you make it to full term
you can consider yourself lucky. Lucky you had a mother that made the choice of life for you. Don't you think they all deserve the same basic human right, LIFE?
I'm all for contraception, prevention is certainly better than termination.
Did you know you can get an implant that is safe, 99.9% effective, and lasts for three years? Just think girls not even a show for three years, wouldn't that be great? I think too many people rely too heavily on the last option (abortion), I think if abortions weren't so readily available people would manage their reproductive system far better resulting in a fraction of the number of unwanted pregnancies.
World wide there are over 50 MILLION aborted pregnancies each year. In America 3,500 terminations carried out every day, that's over 1.3 million every year, 50% of all cases claimed that birth control had been used, 48% admitted they took no precaution, and 2% had a medical reason. That's a staggering 98% that may have been prevented had an effective birth control been used. Don't get me wrong, I suspect the percentages in Australia would be much the same.
Just a lot of unnecessary killing.

At the point of conception is when life began for you. This was the start of your existence. Your own personal big bang. Three weeks after conception heart started to beat. First brain waves recorded at six weeks after conception. Seen sucking thumb at seven weeks after conception.

I am convinced that in the not too distant future, people will look back at many of the practices of today with disbelief and horror.

Want to know how to find humanity-?

True humanity can only be achieved, by concidering others/ caring about others, as much as, if not more than yourself.

Until we do we are no more than an uncivilisation, with all the uncivilised things that we do...

Bill Clinton once said that abortions should be available , safe and RARE. He is a very wise man.

I'd like to see an ultrasound in every clinnic to provide a more informed choice,
before going through with something they may regret.

I'd also like to see effective birth control made available to all who can't afford it.

Have you seen ( HOT OFF THE SHOW! Throw-away babies )
a blog by Sharon Hughes?

If you think the point of conception is NOT when life begins, and all you have is a clump of cells and not a living human being.
Then at least concider this -

Soon after you were conceived you were no more than a clump of cells.
This clump of cells was you at your earliest stage, you had plenty of growing to do but this clump of cells was you none the less. Think about it.
Aren't you glad you were left unhindered to develope further.
Safe inside your mother's womb until you were born.

I find it riotous that abortion is so easily viewed as ‘killing’. The people from previous posts, in my opinion, have no right to comment on whether abortion is right or wrong since they have never been placed in the position. However, I have. At the age of 17, I became pregnant unexpectedly. Coming from a poor, single parent, abusive household, I obtained a judicial bypass, and had an abortion. It was easily the preeminent, yet hardest decision I have made in my life. I was in no condition to care for a child. I was just a kid myself. If abortion was suddenly made illegal, think of how many children would be brought up inappropriately. They would grow up with teenage parents, most likely in poverty, absent of all affection, love, and proper care required to grow into healthy adolescents. This entire new wave of accidental children would more than likely grow up angry, and could lead a life of crime and poverty just as they had grown up in. Crime rate would increase. The mothers would suffer with an unwanted child and never continue her education, leading to a class of unsuccessful women, causing greater future poverty. Accidental pregnancies should have a route to escape, and whether some consider it ‘murder’ is their own opinion. It’s in the best interest for the child’s future, and beneficial for everyone’s sake. You can judge, and can ridicule, but those who have never been put in such a position will never understand the complexities and the detrimental tribulations a child can bring to an unsuspecting mother. You can tell teens not to have sex, tell them to be careful, but you all need to open your eyes and look around, teenage pregnancies are inevitable. If you chose to make them suffer for their own wrong doings then you are simply cruel and biased. If you want to make children suffer through life living as a mistake of their mothers, you are ghastly. Abortion is a way of light for those trapped in unwanted pregnancy, and this should never be rejected.

well i have to agree me being at the age of 17 i felt that i had to because of my background and where i live would not permit me to have a child of my own so i fell as if god is the only one can judge me so let the roar like a lion about what decision i made for me and my unexpected child god knows the situtations in these days so i pray forgiveness and move on

i agree with some of the things that were said but im now in that predicament and im really scared to tell my mother because she is a single parent and im know for a fact that she will kick me out of the house as a pregnate teenager i have no where to go if im kicked out of the house i made a very bad mistake but it's something that i cannot take back unfortunatly i am currently on birth control and you can say i was one of the 3% that it did not work on but i relied a little too much on the birth control and didnt use a condom and now im in the situation that im in i fully understand all of my options and ive decided that there is no possible way that i will be able to provide the life that this child deserves and for that reason im trying to get me a judical bypass because it wouldnt be fair to me or my unborn child if i had this child out of wedlock and at 17 when im not even out of high school yet and ill have no means of support for it if i do have it. dont get me wrong truly if i was a little bit older and this would have happened i would definatly keep it but truly i just couldnt do it so please dont judge someone until you've lived through the experience of having to give up your child with no chance of them coming back it's the worst feeling in the world but you just have to hope that when you see them again that they will understand why you did what you did and forgive you

Hey ladies, how about stop having sex instead of unfurling the endless self-pitying about your life and your rights.

Would you accept all your rationalizations if a 17 year old guy was using them to explain why he walked away from taking care of his kid? Probably not.

Simple solution here, stop bending over and hiking up your skirts.....

look, you fundamentalist creeps, you cannot control everyone's every move! if i had a dollar for every self-righteous rabid christian wacko anti-choicer who spat out skewed opinions and out-of-context numbers while telling women to keep their legs closed i'd be a rich woman! add to that the fact that i happen to know that the majority of those people weren't virgins (when married) themselves and i become an ill rich woman! for anyone who isn't clever enough to realize that abortion has been around since women have been getting pregnant, i'm sorry for your dense, unforgiving hardheadedness; but get over yourself! you are not going to stamp it out until women cease the ability to get pregnant - period! until all children are created in some laboratory by uninterested third-party system of robotic arms and humans lose all desire for closeness and intimacy there will abortions! face the fact that there is no way to monitor every woman every second of every day! and, since abortion will continue to happen - regardless of your opinions and self-hatred -, they need to be safe and legal because that's what women deserve! abortion is not the only option when it comes to unplanned pregnancies, but it is the only one that comes with some sort of nut-job mouthpiece always screaming at women from religious pews as they live their lives! abortion is not wrong and no one on earth has the right to judge, so back off and concentrate on the plank in your own eye!

all u people like to talk crap. but women that are haveing abortions or looking to find info on judicial bypass are doing it for a reson and are all children there doing this because there are MINORS.
im only 17 and im in the same situation many of these girls are going through its alot going to court proveing ur mature enough its really scarey. ever think of what might happen to allthe girls if they didn't do this ? why they don't tell there parents it's because there parents will kick them out and they have no place to go and before that even happens they get beat. so you go through all that shit and then tell me whats up learn to keep your fucken mouth shut bitches i could care less what u people think just think about it.

i cant stand you right winged religious bible verses slurring ignorant people. An abortion is a womens chioce period, and in most situations its better for the couple, the person who is pregnant and the family. i also love how most pro-life all the way people are over 30 and happily married. Kiss my ass, take walk in someone elses shoes for once and take of your damn tunnel vision glasses
