Louisiana makes rape victims submit to 24 hour waiting period
Louisiana HB 242 passed the House committe, and will now be voted on by the Louisiana House. This act requires that women who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest be subject to a 24 hour waiting period and counseling. The statute currently requires documentation of the rape or incest, and allows for spiritual counseling, in order to qualify for use of public funds.
Victims of rape and incest are also going to get the benefits of Louisiana's Right to Know Bill, which requires that women be told that they don't have to have an abortion, that they can carry the baby to term, that there are agencies that can help, that public assistance is available, and that the father can be forced to contribute money. Just, you know, in case.
